DR. ANSLEY W. LAMAR
Raised in The Soundview Class-Point projects in what is now considered the south Bronx, Dr. Ansley W. LaMar has been associated with New Jersey City University for over 45 years. He is a professor of psychology. Dr. LaMar has also served as the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, the Director of the Educational Opportunity Fund Program, and the Chairman of the Psychology Department. In 1995, Dr. LaMar founded LaMar Educational Enterprises, LLC. Most recently, he serves as the Head of School of the Newark Boys Chorus School.
An award-winning public speaker, Dr. LaMar has presented workshops on motivating students, conflict resolution, leadership, time and stress management, minorities in management, promoting racial harmony in academic institutions, creating authentic happiness, and finding the love of your life. His clients have included UBS Financial Services; The Newark Boys’ Chorus; The United Way of New York; The New School for Social Research; Rutgers University, Newark; Rider University, Bloomfield College, Ocean County Community College, Atlantic Cape Community College, Elmwood United Presbyterian Church; and owners of small and mid-sized businesses.
Dr. LaMar has conducted research on altruism, race relations, criminal sentencing, and the academic needs of college students. His publications include “The Scholarly and Creative Works of Jersey City State College Faculty and Staff;” an Orientation To College Student Workbook; tips for helping children become leaders; with Robert Panzarella, an article titled “The Attitudes of Blacks and Whites toward Native American Revolutionary Tactics for Social Change;” and in the book Forgiveness and Reconciliation: Psychological Pathways to Conflict Transformation and Peace Building a chapter titled “A Black Social Psychologist’s Perspective on Racial Forgiveness.” His recent publications include an edited issue of the University’s Academic Forum dedicated to “Academic Standards” and a second issue dedicated to “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.” He is presently editing a manuscript titled "Just in Case I Forgot: Lessons on Life to My Son.’
In addition to having a doctorate in Social Psychology, Dr. LaMar is a certified Life Coach, a certified Master Practitioner in Neurolinguistic Programming, a certified Chronic Disease Self-Management Peer Leader and specializes in applying social psychological theories, principles, and research to enhance individual and group effectiveness.
Dr. LaMar is President of the Board of the Sickle Cell Association of New Jersey, the current President of Education of Gateway 2 chapter of Toastmasters International, Inc. and a former board member of the Holmes Presbyterian Camp and Conference Association. He has been a board member of Rejoicensemble, a vocal group committed to celebrating the music of the African Diaspora. He also was a member of The Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, The American Society of Training and Development, The American Creativity Association, The Institute of Noetic Sciences, the Eastern Psychological Association, The Association for Quality and Participation, and The American Management Association. Dr. LaMar also served on the Board of Directors of the New York Association of Black Psychologists and the Board of Directors of The New Jersey Association of Black Psychologists.
Dr. LaMar is listed in Outstanding Young Men of America and Who’s Who in the East. The has also ben listed twice in Who’s Who in America and three times in Who’s Who Among American Teachers. In addition, he has received New Jersey City University’s Walter Glospie Memorial Service Award and the University’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Service Award.

LaMar Educational Enterprises, LLC also offers personal and executive coaching to individuals and groups who are interested in meeting and exceeding their personal, professional and relationship goals.
Dr. LaMar also founded and directs SuperKidz Kamp, www.superkidzkamp.com, a 7-day, fun-filled, residential camping experience that uses challenging activities, cooperative games, and opportunities for reflection to develop the leadership capabilities of 10 to17 year olds. As part of its outreach program, SuperKidz Kamp sponsors the Contributions of Martin Luther King, Jr. essay contest.
His proudest accomplishments are, however, his marriage to Mary Bentley LaMar, the former superintendent of Shiloh Baptist Church Sunday School, the 34th North Atlantic Regional Director of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and Founder of the Sickle Cell Association of New Jersey, and their wonderful and especially talented son, Hunter.
