Giovanny A. Parada (Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry) was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia where he received his B.S. and M.S. in Chemistry at the National University of Colombia. He moved to Sweden to earn his Ph.D. in Molecular Biomimetic from Uppsala University. On moving back to the Americas, he was a postdoctoral associate at Yale University prior to joining The College of New Jersey. His research focus on mechanistic and thermodynamic aspects of charge transfer reactions. In particular, he has studied amino acid analogs and metal oxide nanomaterials where the transfer of electrons and protons occurs in association. The motivation of his research stems from the growing recognition of “proton-coupled electron transfer” reactions to be critical to numerous –biological and artificial– energy conversion schemes and catalysis.
