I am a civic educator and public defender and a scholar of civic engagement and movement building. I've started or led 14 nonprofit enterprises in the arts, community development, and civic engagement. I have taught civics, public policy, organizing, leadership, and creativity at six local universities. In 2013 I co-founded the CivicLab, a Black-led 501 c 3 "do tank" for civics and justice (www.civiclab.us). I am the Lead Organizer for the TIF Illumination Project that exposes the hyper-local harms of TIF districts (www.tifreports.com). I am the organizer and publisher of "Chicago Is Not Broke. Funding the City We Deserve" (www.wearenotbroke.org). I've done over 200 public meetings and led over 100 civic workshops.
